FOSP

Welcome to the Friends of Stanley Primary School (FOSP) - our name for Stanley’s PTA.

Who we are

All parents and carers are members of FOSP from the moment your child starts Stanley school, right through to when they leave. We work together with the teachers as a team of volunteers to support our school.

No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!

Joining in with FOSP events is a brilliant way to feel part of the Stanley community, meet other parents and make friends. With everyone pulling together to support the school and our dedicated teachers we are able to raise funds that help every Stanley child make the most of their time at primary school, give them the best possible start to their education, and create happy childhood memories that will last a lifetime.

As a FOSP volunteer there are loads of things you can do – we have a job for everyone who wants one!

How to find out what we’re up to:

  • Come along to the FOSP meetings, usually held once a term
  • Read the FOSP news section in the school newsletter every Friday
  • Follow FOSP on Facebook and Twitter
  • Look out for FOSP posters around the school
  • Check Parent mail and school bags for letters and reminders

You can also contact FOSP by email or if you have something to share on social media email here.

FOSP has eight committee members (with some roles shared) to support all FOSP activities and fundraisers:

Chair and Vice Chair: Responsible for running the FOSP meetings, setting up working groups, event planning and liaising with the Headteacher and class reps

Secretary (x2): Responsible for communications with parents and carers through newsletters, Parent hub, social media and noticeboards, as well as promoting FOSP events outside school

Treasurer: Responsible for taking care of the finances of FOSP, including book keeping, floats for events, paying expenses and donations to the school, and reporting our financial position back to the school and to the Charity Commission

Staff Rep: Responsible for maintaining the link between the school staff and governance, and the activities undertaken by parents through FOSP

Head of Class Reps: Responsible for maintaining the link between the parents and the school - keeping parents up-to-date on class news, organising volunteers for class-related events like cake sales and swimming

Head of Operations: Responsible for the upkeep of FOSP materials and event equipment (e.g. all the stuff used in the stalls a May Fair, Christmas Bazaar and Fireworks Night)

What We Do

At Stanley Primary, the School PTA is called FOSP (Friends of Stanley Primary). We support the school by organising fundraising events throughout the year, which are run by parent and carer volunteers. Together we then decide how the money raised should be spent to improve the learning environment for every child at school.

Our Flagship Events are led by parent year groups, with the support of the FOSP committee:

Year 6: Leavers events & activities

Year 5: May event

Years 3 & 4: Summer Social

Year 2: Disco

Years 1 & 2: Infants Christmas Shop

Reception: Tea Towels

Pre-School / Peartree: Volunteering across events

Our Investments

And thanks to the support of our FOSP volunteers, Stanley families, Stanley staff and local businesses, we’re able to fund things like:

  • Interactive 'teaching display units' in every classroom in the school
  • School Office Entrance/ Revamp
  • New school signs
  • Maintaining our Living Classroom (wildlife garden)
  • Playground equipment including the Pirate Ship
  • Whiteboards
  • Cash contributions to each class
  • Reception book bags
  • Play equipment for our Pre-School like an interactive Light Table and trikes for Key Stage 1 children
  • Donations to each Year 6 group for their trip and leavers’ party
  • And the list goes on as we support the school to give our children the best primary school experience

How To Get Involved

All parents/carers are members of FOSP from the moment your child starts Stanley School. There are plenty of ways you can get involved and it's easy to find something that fits around your family and work commitments. Here are some of the ways you can get involved:

Event volunteers

Each year group is responsible for organising different events throughout the year, and each event needs extra volunteers to help out from any year group. Parents/carers are the backbone of FOSP and none of our fundraising events could happen without their help. For example:

  • Organising and volunteering at fundraising events like our Christmas Bazaar or Fireworks Night
  • Organising and volunteering at social events like our Summer Social
  • Helping out after school at cake sales, second-hand uniform sales and the Book Fair
  • Encouraging local businesses to support school events with donations
  • Supporting truly unforgettable events that will stay in your family’s memory long after your children have moved to secondary school, like our Infants’ Christmas Shop
